About Us
KOP was formed in the fall of 2002. To mark Monique’s 50th birthday, she decided to run the Chicago Marathon and raise money for a foreign mission that she could endorse wholeheartedly. She chose the Jubilee Children’s Center as her mission to support.
After raising more than $52, 400 (more than $2,000 per mile of the marathon), she decided that this could be a project that she could support on a long term basis. At that point she decided to recruit others and create a 501(c)(3) non-profit. She called it Kenya Orphanage Project (KOP).
From 2003 to 2009, the Jubilee Children’s Center became home for 120 children. To support the operation of the orphanage, KOP raised money through the “Sponsor a Child Program” and other Fundraising events.
In August 2009, the KOP Board of Directors decided to terminate its partnership with Child of Destiny and discontinued the financial contributions and monthly transfer of funds to Kenya.(read more)
Today KOP sponsors twenty nine children in nine boarding schools around Nairobi.
