2009 Mission Trip

Kenya Orphanage Project recently returned from two successful mission trips to Jubilee Children's Center.

1. Medical Team:
The medical team departed the U.S. on Thursday, March 26, arriving Nairobi on Friday evening, March 27. The team worked at Jubilee the week of March 30. Some team members stayed for an optional 3 day, 2 night safari trip on April 4, returning home on Monday evening, April 6.

KOP is still looking for a dentist assistant, an hygienist and a medical doctor to join future medical teams.

2. Construction Team:
The construction team departed the U.S. on Thursday, April 2, arriving Nairobi on Friday evening, April 3. The team worked at Jubilee the week of April 6. A optional customized safari trip was arranged for April 11.

Tasks at Jubilee:
Participants build bunk beds and high school desks – Experienced and inexperienced volunteers are welcomed as training can be provided to anyone who is willing to work.

3. In addition, KOP welcomes anyone willing to help with the following:
- Teach basic computer skills (business and games)
- Organize the library
- Organize music, arts, crafts and dance groups
- Organize outside activities with the children such as races, games, etc.
- Read with the kids and play board games
- Takes pictures of the children, update records, etc.
- There will be tasks such as organizing a birthday party or a cook out, unload boxes that were previously shipped.

The most important requirements are the desire to help and to provide love and care to the children.

All participants paid their own expenses:
- Price of the ticket US – Nairobi was around $1,650.
- Accommodations were at the Methodist Guest House with a double room, breakfast included at about $70 per room, i.e. $35 per person if sharing a room.
- Additional expenses for daily transportation, lunch and dinner were about $30/day.
- Optional safari trip ranged between $900 to $1,500 depending on how many days.
- Medical expenses: Malaria pills and recommended shots: +/- $350
- Passport: $100
- Kenyan visa: $50
