KOP MISSION TRIPS
Mission trips are open to anyone who has the desire to help the children. For more information, please contact Monique at boekhout@comporium.net.
March 2009 saw many previous trip participants returning to Jubilee with Monique, a total of 32 people. Branching further, there were participants from California and Oregon, as well as Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. A first for KOP, four teenagers were included in our construction team. A very efficient medial team managed to check over 150 children for dental, eye and general health issues. The construction team completed one day earlier than scheduled 15 bunk beds, 16 high school desks, did some repair on the playground and fixed about 29 bicycles that needed new brakes, tires, etc.

In 2008, unrest in Kenya prevented another mission trip so KOP concentrated on raising money and over $92,000 were transferred to Kenya to help with construction, start a milk program, ship items a container, replace school uniforms, organize a field trip and activities with the children.
In June 2007, Monique assembled two teams again, a medical team led by returning dentist, Dr, Myrick followed by a 12 people construction team. The dental team spent hours and thousands of dollars doing reconstruction work on children’s teeth. The construction team managed to build 24 additional bunk beds, 16 desks for the high school and 3 bookshelves. The children also enjoyed their first field trip to the Bomas of Kenya. That year, KOP contributed $20,000 to Jubilee Center for the high school construction, in addition to the operating money.

In February of 2006, 23 volunteers spent several days with Joe Mwangi Symmon and AlyceJo at the Jubilee Children’s Center building and installing a large playground for the children that had been built in the States and shipped to Kenya in a container. During that trip, 12 of them including Monique, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, raising money for the KEEP Endownment Fund. The other volunteers unpacked many boxes that had been shipped earlier by KOP in a 40 ft container and distributed clothing, shoes, school supplies, etc to the children.
The second mission trip to the Jubilee Children’s Center was in July of 2004. The main accomplishments were dental exams for all children and staff, eye examinations, constructing part of an irrigation system, painting dorms and classrooms.
That same year in August, fourteen members from Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, led by Rev. Talbot Davis, (Good Shepherd UMC had provided the money to Child of Destiny to drill the well at Jubilee).spent a week at Jubilee Children’s Center and exposed our children to their first vacation bible school experience.
In February of 2003 Monique led a group of ten board members and friends on a mission trip to Kenya with a main focus on building 26 bunk beds and to welcome the first children at the Jubilee Children’s Center. Joe Mwangi Symmon and wife AlyceJo Mwangi welcomed the participants and showed them the construction progress made with the money raised through Monique’s marathon.
