In 2002, Joe Mwangi Symmon and wife, AlyceJo Mwangi contracted with Conarch Building Services in Nairobi, Kenya and obtained from them the preliminary drawings, renderings and cost estimates for construction of the Jubilee Children’s Center.
Construction Progress
Phase One, completed in the spring of 2003 consists of two dormitories, one for boys and one for girls, both with toilets and showers, and the matron’s quarters between them. KOP provided $69,500, money raised by Monique Boekhout through her running of the Chicago marathon. In 2004, nine classrooms were completed. The administration building was started in 2006. The teacher's staff room and library have been completed.
The missionary/volunteer guest house that will be able to accommodate a dozen people at a time is under construction. KOP is expanding its missionary/volunteer program because of the numerous benefits it brings to the children and to the participants of the program.
In 2007, we started the construction of JCC’s high school block and the infirmary/medical center. The medical center was also started because of a designated contribution by the Agape International Spiritual Center.
In 2008, we finished the construction of the permanent kitchen. The permanent kitchen will be equipped with modern cooking facilities to replace the slow cookers and firewood previously used. We now have refrigeration. The dining room is also used as an assembly hall for church services on Sunday.
In 2009, one side of the High School structure was completed, with room for a computer lab and science lab. In addition, a dormitory to accommodate the high school girls, was added.
This construction was made possible thanks to several supporters of Child of Destiny and the Jubilee Children’s Center. KOP has contributed so far to Jubilee Children’s Center $167,000 towards construction projects.
